I am James Robert Cheatham but everyone calls me “Sonny”. And therein lies a story which I love to tell, so ask me about it sometime.
I moved to Georgia from Kentucky a number of year ago. And in 1983 I bought this 54 acre vacant piece of property (except for one old barn and a small 1960’s house located on the road). I moved my family here after the construction of our home was completed. The construction of the pond was begun at the same time as our home and in January 1984 it was stocked with large-mouth bass and bream. This tract of land has only two neighbors and a ½ mile of road frontage on Georgia Highway 82 (Holly Springs Road). In 1984, we renovated the 1960’s house where it has been occupied ever since. In 1985 we built the barn then other structures followed as time passed and needs occurred.
From time to time I am away from CSF. Annually I go back to Kentucky to visit old friends and family and at other times a few days off for relaxation. At all these times boarders are made aware of my schedule. If need be, I can always be reached on my cell phone. When I am away, I always place the herd in a pasture where a vehicle is least likely to run through a fence and cause a problem for the horses.
I do not drink, smoke or chew tobacco and rarely say bad words but I must tell you that my two Border Collies are named Heck and Dern and a brown dog we call Phooey. And as I like to jokingly tell folks, I don’t have any tattoos, ear-bobs, nose-diamonds, tongue-bolts or eyebrow clips. I think that pretty well sums me up. But you can come to your own conclusions once we have met.
Boarders from time to time just drop by for a visit and when they do they have just made my day. NOBODY likes to “shake and howdy” more than I do. We always keep a supply of Coke-Cola’s on hand and there is never a time when I don’t have a half gallon of Blue Bell Cookies and Cream in the freezer—that is if I haven’t just cleaned out the last ½ gallon the night before. Now, like a wonderful old lady told me one day when I was surveying her property “If you are coming to see me, you can come at any time, but if you are coming to see my house, you gotta make an appointment.” I now live by that statement and fully understand the wisdom behind it.
